This "pavilion" is actually the top of the tower of the old Tisserand recreation home in Kaltenbach. In 1892, the old Kaltenbach mill was expanded to create a "cold water sanatorium", which was in vogue at the time. Its architect was Ludwig Schöne, of Vienna.

The tower, as well as the entire Tisserand recreation home, was in half-timbered building design, with numerous playful details typical of the time. Especially on the inside, the complicated but high-quality craftsmanship construction is evident.

Between 1984 and 1985, the building was demolished and a new building for a sanatorium was built. However, the top part of the tower was saved during the demolition by Franz Mair (a.k.a. "the Bacher farmer"), who had been involved in the demolition. He erected it in front of his house as a garden pavilion in 1985.
