Corner of Bahnhofstrasse and Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Strasse, at the edge of the park
The Municipality of Bad Ischl had the monument erected in 1924 by the Linz Art Institute Ludwig Linzinger (sculptor Karl Podolak) to commemorate the fallen and missing of WWI. The monument was unveiled on 25 October 1925. In 1952, a memorial plaque was added for the fallen of WWII. In 1971, the monument got a new inscription on the granite plaques that still exist. In 1996, the monument was moved from its original location in front of the "Johann Nestroy School" on Kaiser Franz Josef Strasse to its current location.
The monument is a high, stepped pedestal with slightly curved wing walls (made of Ischl marble) and a life-size group of figures (made of Untersberg marble). The figures: grieving mother and child on top. At the front of the plinth walls, there are three black granite plaques with inscriptions. On both sides of the central part, there are old bronze plaques with the names of the fallen of WWI, which were removed in 1971 and reinstalled in 1996.
